The debut album of Malakai Bayoh has shot on release to the top of the UK classical charts.

Malakai, now 14, was booed by an audience member in Handel’s Alcina on first appearance at Covent Garden.

His representatives have made the most of that headline incident to launch a considerable career.

Malakai attends Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School in west London. His appearance on Britain’s Got Talent was curtailed by a mistaken choice of repertoire, but that blip will soon be forgotten.

Permit me to hazard a guess. Classic FM?

    Booed by one man.

    • Adenike says:

Would you doubt the achievement of a blond blue eyed 14 year old?

      • Adrienne says:

Yes, if appropriate, although my target was Classic FM’s vacuous obsession with charts, lists and celebrity.

Would you feel better if I had a pop at the very blonde Katherine Jenkins?

I think you’re making certain assumptions about my skin tone. Don’t worry, you’re not the first.

      • zayin says:

Would you praise his achievement if he were not black?

If he were another blond blue eyed kid, he wouldn’t make it pass an audition for the Vienna Choir Boys, he would just be another blond blue eyed kid trying to hack it in classical music.

If he were singing a Michael Jackson song, his off-tune singing would be self evident, he would be booed off the stage, because he would be judged according to normal standards, just another black kid trying to hack it in pop music.

    • Skeptic says:

He was well worth the investment.

  • zayin says:

    The black Paul Potts.

  • Stan says:

His appearance in the final of “Britain’s Got Talent” enabled him to obtain a recording contract.

Marketing and exposure generates the sales. Then, it will be up to him to sustain interest with his performances.

    • Robert Holmén says:

There have been a number of successful acts that fared well with minimal/no public performing to hype their continuing studio output.

His bigger problem is going to be when his voice changes. Very few boy trebles survive that.

  • Gustavo says:

Maybe that member of the audience didn’t shout “booh” but “Bayooh”?

    • Mecky Messer says:

Yeah, kind of like when your friends call you up.

      Is it Benito or Adolf?

      • Sue Sonata Form says:

        Not these days.

“Hello, can I please speak to the Head of the Thought Police? Somebody in my house as offended me.”

        • Mecky Messer says:

Yeah, you make a point. Every time anybody tells you something is inappropriate, lets respond with the exact opposite.

So predictable. Any hint of anybody getting triggered, triggers these folk.

“What do you mean we can’t have tigers as pets?

Its the end if civilization! They are taking my god-given right and friiidum” “socialist propaganda” “woke”….

          did I forget something?

          Oh the irony

    • Tony says:

He was definitely ‘booed’ – I was there and witnessed it.The audience member also shouted at him.The boy was racially abused.
