The semi-banned Russian soprano was due to give a concert at Vienna’s Konzerthaus on September 6. The hall remains open to controversial Russian artists and their oligarch backers.

Netrebko, however, has decided on a change of programme. Instead of an evening of opera arias, she will present a full Traviata in concerto version with husband Yusif Eyvazov will interpret Alfredo and Canadian baritone Étienne Dupuis as Germont. Michelangelo Mazza will conduct the Konzertvereinigung Wiener Staatsopernchor and the Philharmonie Baden-Baden.

Considering the current state of her voice the concert is sure to be comedy gold.

La Traviata at the huge Verona Arena on September 9 is almost sold out. This is another opportunity to see Anna Netrebko singing highlights from her famous breakout role in a concert production.

They are not Russian. And these countries who hate Russia are real bigots.

    • Hugo Preuß says:

Nobody hates Russia. There is a difference between hating an entire country and opposing a murderous imperialist dictator and his cronies and syccophants. Try it. It is not that difficult.

      • Božidar Šicel says:

Are you talking about Russia as imperialistic country!? Where did you learn about history of imperialism? About murderousness od Putin’s politics, make some comparison with Iraq (2,000.000 dead), Vietnam (3,000.000 dead), and then add some number of millions in Afganistan, Siria, Libia, Kambodija, Laos, Burma, Palestine (Izrael sponsored by USA) ,and so on, and so on!
        Sic.

Well, yes, she is Austrian and he used to be Italian (he got Italian citizenship because for more than fifteen years he was married to an Italian woman almost 40 years his senior and far-right politician), currently I don’t know, maybe he is Austrian too?
Of course, ethnically Yusif is Azeri and Anna, on her father’s side, comes from Cuban Cossacks. But they both grew up in the USSR, in Russian culture. Anna identifies herself as Russian, Yusif does not (although he communicates exclusively in Russian with his family and friends and is very keen on a career as a pop singer in Russia).

  • Božidar Šicel says:

Thank you for posting this article. It’s new opportunity for inhuman haters to vent their hatred against everything Russian!
