The City of London Corporation has agreed to post a bronze sculpture of Sir Simon Rattle inside the Barbican Music Library.

The bust was sculpted by Lady Petchey (Frances Segelman) and donated to the charity Help Musicians.

Rattle, 68, has cut short his term as music director of the London Symphony Orchestra to join the Bavarian Radio orchestra in Munich. The bust will be installed on his last day, June 15.

Like his LSO engagement, the bust looks a bit unfinished.

You can tell it’s Simon Rattle from the name Simon Rattle written across it.

  • Tony says:

    Unfinished?
He looks more like he has just been exhumed.

  • Gustavo says:

Eyes too large, hair too short, no teeth, no under-bite.

  • ayin says:

    It’s ugly.

  • rustier spoon says:

It’s a little odd! I hope Simon likes it!

London has turned him into a zombie.

    Thought it was Michael Jackson!

  • Simon says:

It’s not the greatest bust I have ever seen, but then, he’s not the greatest conductor. Maybe the two are worthy of each other.

  • Bostin'Symph says:

I like it. It is a good representation and has captured more than his likeness.

  • Peter says:

Sorry no new hall, but have this instead, in a dark corner of the music library.

  • Em says:

Looks more like Thomas Hampson ( but different, scary eyes)…

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Now that he has a bust does this mean his transition is complete? From the BPO to the LSO?

  • Corno di Caccia says:

I think a huge image of Simon Rattle, like the Batman sign, should be permanently projected in the sky over London to taunt the Tory Government. That would’ve been better.
