Opera chief is knighted in King’s birthday honours

The outgoing chief executive of Opera North, Richard Mantle, became Sir Richard today. He has led the company very capably for 30 years and will retire in December.

Kathryn McDowell, managing director of the London Symphony Orchestra, was made a Dame Commander of the B British Empire.

Others honoured today include the violinist Tasmin Little, who was made CBE, as was the conductor Ivor Bolton. There are also OBEs for tenor Nicky Spence and soprano Lucy Crowe.
