After devoting himself body and soul to the Berlin Philharmonic for the past four years, its chief conductor is finally getting out and about.

Next week Kirill Petrenko is appearing in Amsterdam with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Alban Berg’s  3 Orchesterstücke, Op. 6, and Béla Bartók’s The Wooden Prince. Next season he’s at La Scala conducting Rosenkavalier and in Bergen, Norway, for Elektra.

So far as we’re aware his only other recent away nights have been with the Israel Philharmonic (pictured).

last May he came to Turin in Italy to conduct the RAI orchestra, with which he has maintained a relationship for several years. in 2024 he will also be with the Vienna Philharmonic.

  • Old Stick Waver says:

Well then you need to become better aware.

The first two years of his time in Berlin, he was still working as GMD in Munich and split his time between these institutions. After two seasons away, he returns this fall for Mahler 8.

As mentioned above, Petrenko conducts the RAI orchestra almost every season. And from time to time, also the Santa Cecilia.

In the last couple of seasons he has conducted the Vienna Phil and also the orchestra of the Vienna Musik Uni (MDW). Although he hasn’t been back in a couple of years, he had a yearly concert with Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg for more than a decade.

He was supposed to conduct the BRSO last fall, but canceled.

And as you mentioned, he is a regular with the Israel Philharmonic.

Perhaps the young stick waver should take notice. Be more selective. Instead of being chief conductor of three orchestras in three different countries at the same time… and all before the age of 30. Just some food for thought.

  • BPO fan says:

Seems Petrenko like to guest conduct works that will soon appear later in his Berlin concert?(the whole IPO program last year, La Mer with Santa Cecilia and cancelled Elijah in Munich all appeared in this season , both work in this RCO concert will appear next season)

If so, I would be very much looking forward to his Mahler 8 and Rosenkavalier with BPO in the future

  • Eyal Braun says:

next year he also comes baack to conduct the Bavarian state orchestra in Mahler 8th!

  • Hermann Lederer says:
