The promising Chilean conductor Paolo Bortolameolli signed this week with Arabella Arts in New York.

He was previously with Mark Newbanks, whose only other clients are Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Susanna Mälkki.

In the week’s other moves, the South African tenor Lunga Eric Hallam signed with Askonas Holt, while Tugce Tez’s boutique has added the Dutch opera director and choreographer Nanine Linning to replace two founding artists who have drifted back to HarrisonParrott.

It’s mid-season transfer madness out there.

Question: Why do these agencies have so much power? In my mind, they are basically enemies. So many people’s lives were either enhanced or destroyed by these places. Why learn an instrument only to have some people who know nothing about you determine your fate? It makes no sense whatsoever.

And how CNN is any of this pertinent to anything? It’s no different than changing baseball teams. But there is no World Series.

    • John Pickford says:

Perhaps, but there are many strikeouts and few home runs despite the players in the dugout or those that are on deck. AND THERE’S NO HALFTIME!!

  • Benjamin Nisbet says:

Good move for Paolo. Arabella is an excellent agency.
