The former chorus chief of Stockholm’s Royal Opera,  Christina Hörnell, has been named CEO and artistic director of Malmö Opera, starting in October.

She is presently director of music at Linköping University.

Her CV:

I began my career as a church musician, singing a lot myself during my studies, among others, under Eric Ericson, he was also my conductor teacher, mentor and friend for many years. I came to the Royal Opera as its first female choirmaster at the age of 30, and stayed for almost 20 years. Don’t know anymore how many operas I’ve done but the repertoire is great. After that, it became Gothenburg Concert Hall as choirmaster for the Gothenburg Symphony Choir in collaboration with conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel and Kent Nagano in the symphonic repertoire…. I have a versatile husband and together we have four adult children. In the winter we like to ski and in the summer boat in the archipelago.

    Excellent news. Christina is brilliant.

Exactly the sort of “insider” we want running complex organizations. There’s little substitute for experience.
