Chicago violist comes out as composer
OrchestrasThe viola player Max Raimi, a regular contributor to this site, appears on a new Chicago Symphony release of music by living American composers (the other two are Philip Glass and Jessie Montgomery).
Here’s Max talking about his piece.
Speaking of violas in Chicago, was that the Cleveland principal violist playing that position with the CSO this week?
Yes,at least on the pics i saw,it´s been Wesley Collons
Collins,sorry.
Just as a guest principal, nothing more to it
I hope you’re reading this, Max. I’d rather not share my name, but we were members of the same youth orchestra 50+ years ago. It’s nice to see you’re still composing nice music!
This will take you back a few years, but I still remember performing “Arch.” At the time I thought it was amazing (and still do) that a high school student could write such a sophisticated piece of music for full orchestra!
Wow, that goes back! Southfield (Mi) Junior Symphony, Richard Brown conducting (although I vaguely recall him letting me “conduct” my own piece). I believe 1970. Thanks for the kind words.
Apple streaming servers will melt under the heavy download traffic; just like with the rest of the Muti-CSO discography.
Have you ever thought about organizing an “International Society of Muti Haters”? Imagine all the fun you could have! Annual conferences and seminars to disagree on which aspect of Muti and the CSO you hate most! An award for the “Non Muti Person of the Year”. There must be enough people on this website alone to make it a promising endeavor.
Now all the euphoric praises of Raimi for Muti and his other bosses make more sense.
The pieces offer the fantastic voice / performance of mezzo Elizabeth DeShong. That’s enough justification to listen to the new release.
Not for me.
Don´t overestimate your importance…
Elizabeth DeShong rocks!!!! Just saw her as Mrs Klinghoffer in a concert performance of John Adams´Death of Klinghoffer with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic in Amsterdam under the composer himself….Unbelievable,really.
He may be out of the closet but word on the street is he is a transposer.
A tremendous talent…
