Horses at the Pegasus Therapeutic Riding Academy were astonished to be treated to a recital by three Philadelphia Orchestra principals.

The performance by tubist Carol Jantsch, horn player Jeffrey Lang and trombonist Nitzan Haroz was filmed for ‘Our City, Your Orchestra,’ to be released tonight on the orchestra’s website.

The Academy offers therapeutic rides for people with physical and developmental disabilities. Nice to hear the appreciation.

Comments

  • Mock Mahler says:

Brass instruments wouldn’t be what first occurs for soothing horses. Tally ho!

  • Good Taste says:

Happy it didn’t involve their flutist Jeff Khaner. Based on the way he plays, it may have been considered by some to be animal abuse.

  • Curvy Honk Glove says:

Ah… Musicians hard at work, diligently trying to solve today’s most pressing societal issues. I guess it’s good work if you can get it, but I’ll just file this under “naval gazing for vacuous clout”

  • Greg Hlatky says:

“Can we live without the damn hay for just one hour?”

  • Had Enough says:

Let us just say what we think. This is idiotic. Even Mr Ed would have a fit!

  • Willym says:

So a few musicians do something for the community and the first comments are mocking and derogatory in nature? Says a great deal about the people making them.

  • The View from America says:

I’m sure the applause was deafening.

  • Robert Holmén says:

We never actually see any horses listening to the musicians.

It’s like the classic Soviet editing exercise… clip random things together and the viewer will presume they are happening together.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Was it the “Galop, Quadrille and Waltz”?

  • Jan Dries says:

If that’s one of the most important programs the orchestra has as Carol says then I would say the situation of the orchestra is not best…

  • Clarinette says:

How embarrassing. Is this a parody or some satire thing? Classical music is so irrelevant that they need to play to animals, yet animals don’t pay for tickets. During the lockdowns and show me your papers fest, many kids could not attend the Phil orchestra. That’s their future patrons! Guess, they may really care. As long they can appear to be more relatable in Philly with “your orchestra” propaganda and diversity pictures with horses. Sad days.

  • Daniel says:

Wow. They’re now playing for horses. Guess the geriatric audiences are shrinking quite fast in america.

  • rando says:

It’s not for the horses. It’s to showcase different organizations helping the Philly community. Watch the series and then make judgement.
