German wins Belvedere
OperaThe 41st Belvedere Singing Competition, which has lost much of its former allure, was won in Dortmund this weekend by the German soprano Ann-Kathrin Niemczyk. Unsurprisingly, she also took the audience prize.
Second was Filip Filipović of Croatia, third was Kevin Jose Simerilla Romero from Spain, both tenors.
The top prize has shrunk to 7,000 Euros.
Interesting…you don’t see many Asians winning or even participaing in opera competitions, whereas they’re sweeping all the instrumental music competitions.
A remarkable South Korean – Gihoon Kim – won the last Cardiff Singer of the World. Many wonderful singers are coming out of South Korea, China, Mongolia, Japan, and more…

this comments is due may be because your competition is largely “overgrown” by Asiatic singers??!
