Vladimir Putin’s director of music was missing without explanation from a high-profile Red Square concert on May 24.

Three days later Gergiev, 70, turned up to conduct the opening of the Stars of the White Nights music festival at the Mariinsky Theatre. He used crutches to get him on stage and then conducted sitting down.

There has been no mention of his injury in Russian media.

Slippedisc has received footage that an audience member shot of him arriving to conduct here and here.

Maybe a drone on Moscow hit him?

Actually, he is just a very weak and fragile man. If you look at the repertoire, he is supposed to conduct every day, sometimes several times a day, but in fact he hardly appears at all, being absolutely unfit to do that and he simply cannot admit that. Sometimes they don’t even announce the name of the substitute. And of course, the spectators never get the refund (and sometimes don’t even understand that the conductor wasn’t Gergiev at all). It’s all very sad indeed.
