Remember when the Beeb tried to ban EU flags from the Proms, fearing the wrath of Tory Brexiteers?

Well, they have a new problem on their hands.

EU flags are being distributed for free all over Liverpool in a crowdfunding-backed initiative.

Will the BBC try to ban them?

I hope they put on the music that makes Father Hackett stand up. Does anyone know the words?

  • Norabide Guziak says:

That’s the Eurovision Song Competition that includes Australia and half of Asia Minor, is it not? As incoherent as the EU.

  • anon says:

It’s not the EU flag; it’s the flag of Europe. Its only official status is as the flag of the Council of Europe (formed 1957), of which the UK is still a member.

    • Norabide Guziak says:

Er, so what do you want to say? That it’s the flag of the Council of Europe? Europe as a historical landmass has no flag.

  • @EUflagsteam says:

The flags are being handed out for FREE, all crowdfunded and taken willingly. None are sold.

  • Gustavo says:

OK, go on bashing the EU!

But I ask you, what is the UK with it’s Union Jack?

Or the Commonwealth with it’s meaningless golden globe surrounded by 34 sunrays on a blue field?

  • sonicsinfonia says:

A minority of contestants in Eurovision come from the EU. The flag is not the flag of the EU anyway.

  • Giles says:

Let them wave the flags if they want. It always amuses me that these are often the same people on social media who shout “fascist state!” every time they see a few Union Jacks.

  • IC225 says:

“Remember when the Beeb tried to ban EU flags from an inclusive celebration of classical music, fearing that it would be hijacked by a group of highly political single-issue fanatics?”

There, fixed that first sentence for you.
