Bayreuth will have two Kundrys in Parsifal
OperaEkaterina Gubanova has just let it be known she will be sharing the role this summer with Elina Garanca.
‘Somebody pinch me – I’m dreaming!!!!!’ she cries. Her performances will be on 15, 19, 23, and 27 August.
She replaces Ekaterina Semenchuk, who has withdrawn from Bayreuth for undisclosed reasons. Elīna Garanča takes over the remaining dates.
Garanca will only sing the first three Kundrys and then switch to Carmen in Graz.
Ekaterina is brilliant and a lovely lady to boot. A real pro who never has a bad word for anyone.
From the headline I thought you meant “two Kundrys in Parsifal,” which of course would not be a first (or second).
I had the same thought and it brought back memories of the dire Syberberg film with two Parsifals.
