Vienna renews invisible boss to 2030
UncategorizedThe Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde has extended the contract of Stephan Pauly, intendant of the Vienna Musikverein, until June 2030.
‘Dr Pauly has managed the fortunes of the Musikverein excellently since 2020 and, despite the enormously challenging situation of the last three years, successfully guided the house through these uncertain times. At the same time, he set innovative accents in the Musikverein programme, connected to the great tradition of our house,’ said Musikfreunde President Johannes Stockert.
Unlike almost every other culture manager in Vienna, Pauly has managed to avoid both limelight and controversy.
In other words, he is doing exactly what the Viennese bourgeois want him to do.
Act without being seen, it is the result that counts. I like it.

He is probably enjoying retirement while pulling a string backstage every now and again.
