The New Mexico opera festival opera festival has installed 431 solar roof panels, delivering half of its daytime energy needs.

General Director Robert K. Meya says: ‘In a place where we have such abundant natural beauty, we take seriously our responsibility to care for the land and natural resources. With over 320 days of sunshine a year, Santa Fe is the ideal place to harness the power of the sun and we are absolutely thrilled to take advantage of this sustainable resource.

‘At the Santa Fe Opera, being an open-air venue, the landscape plays a leading role in each and every one of our productions. Not only do we have a responsibility to care for our natural environment, but transitioning to solar power aids the long-term financial health of the organization, and helps to preserve both the art form and our beautiful setting for generations to come.’

Looks cool.

“Die Strahlen der Sonne vertreiben die Nacht.”

    “Selige Öde auf sonniger Höh’!”

“Da glimmert’s und glitzt’s in der Sonne Glut!”

“Hoch steht schon die Sonne: aus lichtem Blau blickt ihr Aug’ auf den Scheitel steil mir herab.”

“Sonnenhell leuchtet der Tag meiner Schmach!”

  • Murray Citron says:

Those panels certainly do enhance the natural beauty of the place!

    This is leadership.

  • Serge says:

Will they only have daytime performances then?

  • Robert Holmén says:

This is much more sensible than the old practice of burning cellos and sheet music for energy.

How did that even get started?

  • Gustavo says:

In Germany, solar panels are all the rage.

After years of disregard and governmental sepsis, solar panels are now back on the agenda as a political fig leaf to protect the fossil-fuelled dwindling car industry.

While there is still no speed limit on Hitler’s highways, the government is opting for massive infrastructural projects, including the replacement of heating technology and the extension of motorways.

Not to mention the war mongering of the steel industry.

We’ve probably reached the point of decadence like in antique Rome, or even worse.

I’m going to retire at this point to smoke a home-grown joint.

Brilliantly obvious but welcome. Forward-thinking Santa Fe always impresses.
