A Ukrainian conductor is killed in action
UncategorizedThe National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine has confirmed the death on the Russian front of conductor and bassoonist Kostiantyn Starovytskyi:
The orchestras said: ‘A musician, conductor, father and son was killed in the war. A hero, Kostiantyn Starovytskyi. Our sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones, friends, brothers-in-arms and colleagues.’
He was on a combat mission near the village of Torske, Donetsk region, when he was killed.
Starovytskyi had conducted a number of operas in Kyiv, including Donizetti’s Rita in 2015, ‘Don Pasquale in 2019, Menotti’s The Medium in 2018 and Puccini’s “Gianni Scicchi” in 2019.
