The Vienna Symphony Orchestra, which lost its music director in a huff last year, has named Marie Jacquot as its principal guest conductor from September.

The Parisian conductor, 32, is a former junior tennis player who made it into the French Open.

She is on a rising trajectory since serving as an assitant to Kirill Petrenko. In August 2o24 she will become principal conductor of the Royal Danish Theatre Copenhagen.

Her and Oksana Lyniv should build a monument to Kirill Petrenko.

Outstanding news. Especially for the Vienna Philharmonic. With Alsop at the ORF and Jacquot at the Symphoniker, they can now invoke diversity in the selection of conductors in the musical life of the City of Vienna and continue to drive their male-heavy agenda, with a few exceptions where they give a second-rate engagement to a woman, such as Mallwitz, outside of Vienna.

The lament of the goners,again…..One of many, many things i am forever grateful to the great Maitre Pierre is this expression ,something he said in a rehearsal i played under him many years ago…he certainly could smell old farts.
