The first Metaverse opera goes live tomorrow
NewsThe claim below is made by Madrid’s Teatro Real. We join the humble avatars:
The Teatro Real will become the first lyric theatre in the world to broadcast an opera live in the metaverse.
Tomorrow, Friday, 17 March, at 7.30 a.m. (CET), the avatars surfing in Uttopion, the first Spanish metaverse, will be able to watch Dmitri Shostakovich’s ‘The Nose’ live, in the fun, dreamlike, daring and caustic staging by Barrie Kosky, with musical direction by Mark Wigglesworth.
This virtual performance will be offered in a 3D replica of the Teatro Real in the metaverse, where avatars will be able to sit comfortably to watch the opera, observe and interact with the other ‘metaspectators’ present in the hall.
The Metaverse is a multi-user environment that merges physical reality with digital virtuality and allows the creation of immersive and interactive experiences. The Teatro Real, in the development of its strategic objective of technological innovation, is committed to this new virtual reality to reach new audiences, especially Generation Z (young people born after 2000 and considered ‘digital natives’).
