Hyperion gives three waves of farewell
OrchestrasWhile batteries of lawyers spatter sealing wax on small print, we are still awaiting bilateral confirmation of the sale of independent Hyperion Records to the multinational Universal Music.
However, Hyperion has just issed an April release batch with a distinct valedictory feel. Here’s the triptych:
Record of the Month: Haydn’s Seven Last Words
Des canyons aux étoiles … Messiaen’s lifelong engagement with Christian mysticism, birdsong and awestruck contemplation of the beyond.
Ivo Antognini (b1963): Come to me in the silence of the night
The covers are typically spectacular.
Not yet visible in Euroland.
I can see a cold wind blowing through the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
And something with “mille regretz”.
Stefan Dohr playing the spectacular horn solo in the Messiaen!!!!Peerless!!!!
Yes, I listened to this on Youtube or someplace else – I forget. Regardless, the solo horn playing was outstanding. I may pick the Messiaen up on CD.
A terrific label. Great artists and very accommodating. “Say it isn’t so, Joe.”
