Tonight, Slippedisc courtesy of OperaVision brings you Germany’s Opera Oscars live from Oper Dortmund.

Germany is the country with the highest number of opera houses in the world; nowhere else are more operas and operettas performed every year. The OPER! AWARDS are Germany’s only international opera prize, presented annually during a gala to the best creatives of the international opera scene, working on or behind the stage. As detailed below, the awards are presented across 20 categories by a jury of music journalists.

 Live on27  February 2023 at 1930 CET / 1830 London / 13.30 NY

A mere glance at the jury of this unnecessary spectacle will induce the most intense Fremdschämen you’ve ever experienced.

There was a small article in one of Vienna’s online newspapers late last night but it seems to have disappeared. It listed only a few winners.

    I can only recall:

Best singers: Lisette Oropesa and Michael Volle

    Best director: Claus Guth

Best opera house: Dortmund, but that was announced in January.

I can’t find a complete list of winners anywhere. Sorry!

  • Andreas B. says:

    worst YouTube audio: OPER!
worst (and also hilarious) subtitles: OPER!

dreary, dry, dull – a dreadful evening with more than 3 hours of talking and so little opera.
