He started out as a pop singer, growing up above his mother’s pub in Lima, Peru.

In 1996, he triumphed as a jump-in at the Rossini Festival at Pesaro and was instantly booked by La Scala.

Today Juan Diego Florez, the pre-eminent bel canto tenor, is celebrating his 50th birthday in Vienna.

He lives quietly with his family in Pesaro.

    He sings/plays popular Latino music very nicely.

    He gave a great solo concert a few years back in the Elisabethzaal, Antwerp. Some members of the audience hung the Peruvian flag from the balcony.

    He lives, more or less quietly, in Vienna, near the Opera house. But, yes, he has a house in Pesaro which he uses at vacation times.
