But he sang on 14., 18., 21. in Aida. So much for the all-star Aida.
Define “singing”…
Define “reasonable comment” …
He has sounded and looked alarmingly unwell since December. I guess he needs a loooonger break, not just days or weeks, but months, if he can afford one, to make a full recovery and to return to something that can be called a “decent” shape. Good luck!
We know your opinion about Kaufmann for years. Thank you.
”You” may have a point ( after watching ”Tár”, I tend to give more credit to classical music/opera loonies.)
At this point its news on the exceedingly few occasions that he DOES perform.
You have allowed to be brainwashed here. Kaufmann has made 12 performances in the last two months.
Bring in some stiff competition and see how long he remains off-stage.
Isn’t he overparted in Verdi?
L’état vocal de Kaufmann est actuellement désastreux.Il a vraiment besoin de se reposer.
Kaufmann cancels a lot. Whatever anyone might think of Domingo, it was exceptional for him to back out of a commitment. It’s rough luck for opera goers, who have shelled out a small fortune, to hear that a star performer has reneged, again.
He has cancelled his aria evening too at Müpa Budapest on 28 January. We are currently negotiating a new date.
You have to be in tip top health to sing. This is not always achievable. Singers do their best but the public needs to be patient about cancellations. Singing when unwell may compromise the voice forever and may certainly jeopardise more performances in the run. You would not expect an athlete to run on an injury. Have you tried singing on an upper respiratory tract infection?
In fact Jorge de Leon is a beautiful tenor. Much more Radames than Kauffman. I agree with other comments. Kauffman’s voice is a really bad these last years.
How come I am not surprised at all? Five times I have tried to hear Kaufmann live, three times he has not turned up ( Paris Tosca, London Cavalleria and now Aida) The man is a fake attracting loads of audience through marketing devices that worked in the past but no longer ( he was nice, natural, friendly, handsome, you name it. He no longer is. He is getting on and his voice has developed alongside with his good looks.
