In the latest episode of Zsolt Bognar’s Living the Classical Life, Mischa Maisky talks movingly about studying in Moscow with the great cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich.

Maisky says: ‘He was an even greater teacher than  cellist…  he never touched cello during the lessons, he always sat at the piano.’

‘He even told  me:  you are like a son to  me.’

Wonderful memories.

Brilliant. Mischa Maisky’s unstoppable stream of deep thoughts brings both laughter and tears. Zsolt Bognar asks very stimulating questions—nothing new about that.

  • Laura Dewhurst says:

Just beautiful. I love the sound of your cello in particular, and have many of your recordings saved.

  • Greg Bottini says:

    Love Mischa Maisky!!
I’ve got many of his recordings, and all are brilliant.
    (It’s a marvelous interview, BTW.)

  • Nicholas says:

Pablo, Grisha, Janos, Slava, Mischa, and many more — each one great and unique. Misha’s beautiful soul comes across so naturally in this interview.
