Great conductor. Great orchestra.
The concerts are not this week, but between 10th and 17th of December, six in total, and in Tel Aviv, Haifa and Jerusalem.
Petrenko conducts the BPO in the same program in this summer Lucerne Festival
They not only emigrated to Israel- they actually shared an apartment!
And in Berlin at the end of January. The concert on 27/1 is broadcast live in the Digital Concert Hall.
It’s tempting to travel there just for the Schoenberg Variations — a work on my bucket list to hear, live, and with such a marvelous conductor.
Apparently no one in the IPO offices noticed that the image of Petrenko is reversed? He definitely does not hold the baton in his left hand
Great conductor (most of the time). Great orchestra (sometimes). Disappointing program (we’ve really had enough Brahms and Beethoven at the IPO – the players must also be bored).

Hang on – we just had Beethoven’s 8th with BPO and Paavo back in May.
I wonder how much of Paavo will carry over, or does the BPO have a reset button?
Just one of his grandmothers migrated from Russia (the one he lived with in Omsk when his parents worked in South America), the other one from Ukraine. His father came from a very musical family in Lviv. It’s also where Kirill used to spend his childhood holidays. Both grandmothers passed away in recent years but there are still a couple of relatives here in Israel.
