Nathalie Stutzmann – Atlanta Symphony

Nathalie Stutzmann takes up her appointment this week as Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, which makes her the only female Music Director among the top 25 US orchestras. You may remember her as a singer, one of the world’s greatest contraltos, until she started to focus on conducting. She is a shooting star, having vaulted through the usual apprenticeships in record time.

This is the start of a season in which she also makes conducting debuts at the New York Philharmonic, the Bayreuth Festival and the Metropolitan Opera, where she oversees new productions of Don Giovanni and Die Zauberflöte .

Here she is conducting her new orchestra in a performance of Richard Strauss’ Death and Transformation (or, more usually, Death and Transfiguration) and Mozart’s Requiem.

The soloists are Martina Jankova, Sara Mingardo, Kenneth Tarver, and Burak Bilgili.
