Loretta Lynn dies at 90
She was a country singer whose inspiring life story made her one of the most beloved American musical performers of her generation. Her voice was unmistakable – grounded in the Kentucky hills where she was born and which, in musical terms, she never left, a feisty, forthright songwriter whose lyrics detailed the hard lives of the women from whom she came and who sang about them with an authenticity that convinced you that she knew what she was singing about.
Loretta Lynn died this week. She was a one-off in an ocean of country singers who were never as special as she was. She sang her life over and over again. Here’s her most popular song, and her most personal – Coal Miner’s Daughter.
A wonderful talent but she made a fool of herself during the 1988 American presidential campaign when she ridiculed Michael Dukakis’s name, somehow implying that he was “un American.”
A typical Southern white bigot/xenophobe. Unsurprisingly a huge Trump supporter as well.
But not as bigoted as the Latinx head of the Los Angeles City Council who took shots at Blacks, Jews, Armenians, gays and indigenous persons from Mexico.
