Opera Australia chief quits early
NewsLyndon Terracini has agreed to step down as artistic director after 13 years as artistic director of Opera Australia. He will leave next month, a year ahead of his contrct expiry.
Terracini, 72, said his position had been made ‘uncomfortable’ in the past few days by the appointment of a new board chairman, the former Consumer and Competition Commission chair Rod Sims.
Shocking hair dye!
Yes. Men really shouldn’t do it. It fools no-one.
Possibly a wig?
Interesting: we are all consumers now.
Rods Sims is the new chairman. Fiona Allen is the chief executive.
Could it be the former Edinburgh Festival director Fergus Linehan to take over? He has moved back to Australia and worked for Opera Australia before.
Rod Sims is the new chairman of the board. Fiona Allan remains the CEO.
‘Early’ is a stretch. Every Australian opera singer knows he should have been fired after the last review.
Indeed. What has he done for OA? He’s reduced it to a sheltered workshop for second rate European singers and allowed at least one pedophile to flourish in the company. Oversaw a culture where two thirds of the company watched one third get bullied, Worse still, he has allowed Musical theatre to be performed. Good Job mate.
A bit of a stretch to blame Terracini for the pedophile.
Singer presumably referred to was charged in July 2017 for offences dating back to 1993-1995.
Note…Rod Sims is the new chairman of the (unpaid) board not CEO. The new CEO has been there one year and is Fiona Allan previously of Birmingham hippodrome.
There is much more to this story as a wide reaching enquiry into an alleged toxic culture of bullying was set up by the CEO and a report was slated to be released in August. It wasnt but then major change ensued…heads of marketing technical and the orchestra leave within weeks (Terracini appointments) and then the announcement this week that Terracini leaves a year before his contract ends on October 29th and will also not be continuing an emeritus position with HOSH ..the commercial blockbuster opera on Sydney Harbour he championed. The company is in damage control. With a new artistic director soon to be announced many in the Australian artistic community are hoping for continued sweeping changes to the culture and artistic direction including casting of more Australian singers directors and conductors.
Well said.
“Uncomfortable”?!! Welcome to the brave new world of feelings.
