Jakub Hrusa leads tributes to Libor Pesek
NewsMessage from Covent Garden’s incoming chief conductor: In great respect for this artist and man, I remember the countless precious inspirations from his hands and mouth. May you rest in peace and calm, dear Maestro. RIP Libor Pešek.
Sopran Dagmar Peckova: This message hurts so much🖤
My dear Libor, thank you for everything.
You’ve been my artistic beacon since childhood and I will forever cherish every moment we spent together. Good-bye
Conservatoire director Julian Lloyd Webber: ‘Much saddened by the death of my dear friend Libor Pesek; a terrific conductor – and very good company! We played many concertos together including Dvorak, Walton, Elgar – and Britten Cello Symphony.
Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston: Really sad news. I made my professional singing debut, aged just 15, with him conducting, as the Voice from Heaven in Honegger’s Jeanne d’Arc. This will be a strongly felt loss at Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, where he was much beloved. Rest in peace Maestro.
Violinist Václav Hudeček: Yesterday, our dearest friend, great godfather and irreplaceable person Libor Pešek left us. Will remember with love and respect for the rest of our lives…
National Theatre conductor Jan Kucera: Way to go Libor, you were awesome.
NL: Libor once asked me, in despair about the RLPO’s finances, ‘how do I get to meet the Queen? she is the only one who can help us.’
A couple of years later, Her Majesty came to Prague and awarded him an honorary knighthood, the KBE (pictured).
RIP Libor Pecek…..I met you once in Liverpool at Everyman theatre cafe, a real gentleman
As a young lad discovering Classical music in Liverpool it was a treat to attend pesek concerts. From friends in the choir you would hear people talk about him with much affection.
A character who will be much missed.
He got Liverpool and Liverpool loved him for this.
