Thoughtful and serene. Thanks for posting this.
It is the encore, which defines the musician, a highly personal choice, often seemingly tiny. But, in fine hands, they are huge.
The sad truth about Lars Vogt is that I believe his best music-making was still ahead of him. And I say this after having heard some extraordinary concerts of his in Boston. Lars Vogt in my opinion is one of those rare artists, cut from the same clothe as Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, etc., who never gave a bad performance that I heard, and who never once dialed it in, even while playing repertory he had played 10,000x previously. So many artists at some point go onto autopilot. In my experiences with him, that had never happened even once.
RIP Lars. And thanks for the memorable concerts and music-making.
Thought this performance best captured the true
essence of this very elegiac Intermezzo, beautiful, Thank you Lars and Brahms
Fabulous playing, particularly of the inner voices . Oh , how we shall miss you, Lars
This encore of the Brahms Intermezzo Op 118 #2 from his concert with the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra in April of this year is beyond moving. IMO great artistry and humanity.
