In other personnel news, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal just announced that its concertmaster Richard Roberts (one of two, with Andrew Wan), will be retiring after 40 years in post.

  • Fenway says:

She will have to dodge the human feces as she walks to work. Then again, anything is better that playing for Jaap.

  • Eileen Moon says:

Yes, it’s true! What a great time it’s been. Carter Brey (and Phil Myers) being my heroes. I will be forever grateful. Time to pass the baton and have someone new in that seat — the best for all. ❤️

That’s seems a bit odd to go from being a professional musician to becoming what’s essentially a secretary…….

    • mary says:

I wonder who has the more rote job, a secretary or orchestral cellists who play eighth note ostinatos for 2 hours.

It’s a job, and like any job, at the end of the day, it’s the salary, the pension, the security that count.

What good is it to live the life of an “artist”, if some bean counter can unilaterally decide that you should not be paid for a year?

    • MacroV says:

In many organizations these days, “Executive Assistant” to the head person is often a senior advisor/chief of staff/gatekeeper role.

They would also be foolish not to deploy a person of such experience for mentoring and such.

  • ZZQ says:

‘Scuse me. This new job will be important and stimulating. AND in San Francisco.
    All the best!

  • Kevin K Knutsen says:

    Congratulations.

  • Kevin K Knutsen says:

All the best to you and Phil!

  • Alex Croxton says:

Eileen Moon’s fierce cello playing and leadership is as legendary as it is inspiring! As a cellist, thank you for all that you have done and we wish you only the best in your new chapter!

  • Notnek202 says:

Going to the hell hole of San Fran from the nightmare of NYC. Go woke Go broke.

    • Carrie Simmons says:

New York is doing just fine, thank you. Perhaps you’re too busy watching Fox News and Death Wish. I

      • A Pianist says:

OpenTable reports that dining out still down 43% since pandemic? MTA reports subway ridership still down 40%? Real estate surveys indicate office occupancy stuck around 50%? If that’s doing fine, I’d hate to know what doing badly is.

But we digress. All best to Ms. Moon. A change of pace can be really stimulating.

    • MacroV says:

Such a hellscape that it’s impossible to find an affordable place to live.

And New York is still the safest place in the United States.

  • Gabe Wilson says:

One of the amazing things in life is that the journey takes interesting twists and turns. I hope you’ve had a good first year in SF and wishes for success.
