Pianist shares biggest arts prize with Wim Wenders and Ai Weiwei

Japan has just announced the Praemium Imperiale for 2022.

The recipients will be the German filmmaker Wim Wenders, the exiled Chinese artist Ai Weiwei, the Italian painter Giulio Paolini, Polish pianist Krystian Zimerman and the Japanese architecture firm SANAA..

Each wll receive 15 million yen, equivalent to $104,500.

The prize, founded by the imperial family, was not awarded in 2021 due to Covid.

The last musical winner was Yo Yo Ma.
