The US-owned Dutch label Pentatone is bringing forward the release of a cycle of Schubert’s last songs.

It was recorded by the English tenor Ian Bostridge with the German pianist Lars Vogt, during the last stages of his illness.

This videa was taken in concert, shortly before the Covid shutdown.

This is what German romanticism is all about.

Not much of it left today.

I do hope there is a video. Even major, that is big, not great, labels seem to run out film, after 1-2 songs, or a trailer. What is that? Deutsche Grammophon doesn` t own a smartphone?

  • Gustavo says:

Are the heads on the cover photoshopped?

  • Gerard ten Hoope says:

Hopefully the awful horrific drawing will not be on the cd cover

  • David A. Boxwell says:

The cover art for this series has been appalling.

  • KANANPOIKA says:

    Impressive music-making…!!

    But… are we putting on a play….or a slow-motion ballet….?

    Sad…. It’s come to THIS…?

  • Greg Bottini says:

If the image posted on the left is actually supposed to portray Bostridge and Vogt, then their publicity agent(-s) should be fired immediately.
Those drawings make them look like a pair of sadistic child murderers.

    • Hmus says:

Something about the Bostridge rendering (if it is that) looks like the artist was emulating Sir Stanley Spencer’s style…
