The Met has launched an Insider Insights video on their Kimono exhibits.     Monika Bincsik, Diane and Arthur Abbey and Associate Curator of Japanese Decorative Arts, and Marco Leona, David H. Koch Scientist in Charge, Scientific Research, both experts from the Metropolitan Museum in New York to explore the history and modernization of the Japanese kimono.

For the influence of the Japanese kimono on western fashions look  at the designs of Hanae Mori, the Japanese haute couture designer who died on 11th August aged 96.  She combined  the traditional Japanese kimono with French haute couture with stunning results.
