As florid and prosperous as Placido’s marriage can be, and we are certain it is, and we have no reason to doubt it. It surely isn’t as thriving as the union of his comrade in arms Muti, who has set the absolute gold standard for marriages in classical music, perhaps rivaled only by Pavarotti.
Placido cannot rely on angels visiting him and giving him marriage counseling, like Muti on Cherubini’s tours, and cannot count on the support of an entire institution devoted to his wife as much as to the Maestro himself, like the CSO and their president, Jeff Alexander, a sincere paladin of the Maestro’s wife. In spite of weather and distance, Muti’s marriage blooms in Chicago like an exotic flower in a rain forest, at the sound of a sweet bolero … 😀
Congratulations Senor Domingo, even a silver medal in this field is a massive achievement, when the gold goes to the Maestro of true-hearted husbands!

I sure most people married for 60 year are not dependent on each other, it just looks that way.
Amazing how anonymous people on the internet think they have the right to judge the reality of another person’s marriage.
Love or hate Domingo as you wish. However, the validity of the love within his marriage is between him and Marta alone.
But, you know, gotta make sure you mock other people’s lives to make you feel better about your own existence, I guess… (not a good look)

One of the biggest hound dogs at the Met was the word.No real reason to dispute all the women who are believable imo when one understands the ego, arrogance and self importance of an artist of that level who is above it all in his mindset! Must be an excellent actor ,came across as “molto simpatico ” on many occasions when truly a wolf in sheep’s clothing!
