Congratulations, George! As the song says, ‘See you in September”. The Amarillo is indeed fortunate to have you as their next music director!

  • Klara says:

Like we don’t have enough talented American conductors to choose from????????

  • J Barcelo says:

Amarillo! For many people it’s just a dusty cowtown in the middle of the panhandle. One of the most thrilling Mahler 2nds I’ve ever heard was there several years ago. Fine orchestra – and Texas has an awful lot of them, save San Antonio…

  • AmarilloByMorning says:

“This is the first time in 8 years that the Amarillo Symphony has conducted a music director search. The multiyear, international search has been going on since early 2020, under the guidance of a search committee, which is made up of orchestra musicians, board members, and community members. The committee received over 300 applications for the position and has carefully reduced the applicants to 3 incredibly talented finalists.”

300 were willing to move to Amarillo.

You wouldn’t have to move to Texas. Their season is 8 sets of mainstage concerts (once a month from Sept -April).

      Just go once a month.

      $1.6 million budget

Maybe they’d like to live in Amarillo and not have to depend of the airlines to get to work.

      • Violinophile says:

How embarrassing to San Antonio that Amarillo can maintain an orchestra when they can’t.

        • Jon says:

Big difference though. San Antonio was full time. Amarillo is just per-service. The musicians in Amarillo probably make less than 10k a year.

  • Larry says:

There’s also a new, beautiful concert hall there.

  • Sir David Geffen-Hall says:

Nothing wrong with Amarillo. I spent a week there one night.

  • Allen Schwamm Gabka says:

Lots of talent in small town productions. Played in pit orchestra for a production of funny thing happened on the way to the forum in the U. P. Michigan when my brother was living there. Was awsome. I Did a lot of amature musical theature productions in Chicago. Pit orchestra. Reed 2 clarinet and tenor sax. It is a wonderful thing that these things go on. Best wishes to the Amarillo symphony and their new music director

  • Gary Freer says:

let’s hope he knows the way
