Toronto loses the last of its critical lions
NewsAfter 56 years as music and dance critic of the Toronto Star, William Littler today published his farewell column.
Headlined ‘Pianissimo coda to dynamic life as a music critic’, it has a dying cadence.
It seems unlikely he will be replaced at the Star, which is under new ownership.
The combination of Bill’s elegant prose, ultra-dry wit, historical perspective and fundamental musicality has long had my total admiration.
Mine too. I have been reading him since I was a student, with admiration and appreciation.
Wonderful writer, rhymester, and raconteur.
Very sorry to hear about this. He is a great writer and a very helpful guide to the arts.
A sad day, to be sure. But I get a strong feeling that we haven’t heard the last from Bill Littler, not yet. He is still very actively attending concerts worldwide. I wish him the best.
Lovely man, wonderful journalist, great colleague. I’m wishing him every happiness.
