Death of a much-recorded US pianist, 87
RIPThe University of North Texas has announced the passing of its veteran teacher, Joseph Banowetz.
A specialist in the music of Anton Rubinstein, New York-born Banowetz made 25 recordings for Naxos, Marco Polo, Toccata and other labels. His Ronald Stevenson album is much cherished among pianophiles.
What a talent he was and so willing to explore works other pianists sniffed at and ignored. His extensive library of the music of Anton Rubinstein sure opened my ears to some wonderful music. A good long life making music – what a great way to spend time here on this earth. RIP. I’ll put on the Rubinstein 5th tonight!
