William Christie gets crossed by France
NewsThe French Government has named new appointments to the National Order of Merit.
The American conductor William Christie receives the grand’ croix of the order.
One rung down, at officier grade, are the chorus conductor Nicole Cortie, composer Pascal Dusapin and countertenor Fabrice di Falco.
Chevaliers of the order are the soprano Cassandre Berthon and organists Christian Lutz and Jean-Pierre Millioud.
Based on his artistic accomplishments at least, including his lifelong advocacy for French baroque music, he deserves it. It’s a lovely honour for a boy from Buffalo.
Beware of Americans loved by the French – Howard Hawks excepted.
Well, in the case of Jerry Lewis, I agree. But a lot of great jazz musicians found France a congenial home.
Absolutely well deserved. Bravo!
Well deserved. Congrats maestro
