The big event of the next season for the VPO is the come back of Chailly. The last time he directed the orchestra it was maybe 10 years ago.
Excellent, informative, interesting piece. on a news channel that quite a few people watch. Maybe the “Euro” in the title puts off British viewers. But it’s miles better than the dribble you get from Sky and CNN
Very PC. They feature lots of women performers and a Jewish conductor!
Ha, ha, ha! Woke brigade! A few more blacks, “Pakistanis, Orientals and Irish and then they’re really sorted!
The film was a brand building corporate – perfect in-flight fodder for Air Austria … Sporadically informative but more often somewhat smug and self-congratulatory – it’s better form not to blow your own trumpet quite so loudly, so to speak, even if you do it with the ‘Viennese Sound’.
Yes, generally ‘darker’ sounding, yet full. Probably the biggest difference is with the Viennese single F horns and the Viennese oboe. Their single F horns only have three valves, but a double set of ‘pump pistons’ for each valve. It’s an entirely unique valve system that lends for really smooth legato playing. They’re acoustically less compromised by those valves, and by the layout of the tubing. Hence, their sound comes closer to that of a valve-less horn. Their percussion section does a number of unique things as well.
I actually enjoyed the Vienna Phil’s promotional vid. So, shoot me!
Euronews is no hotel room channel. It is a free channel available on cable or digital tv in Germany, austria, and many other European countries.Furthermore,it is on youtube where many, many people watch it.The video is well made, full of interesting insights by great people, especially Sophie and Daniel. It is of zero importance who sponsered it.
Very interesting. I am all for anyone who is trying to promote classical music, opera and dance on tv, radio or in print. There are so few corporate entities who value this. Kudos to Rolex.
ottensamer never won the audition for his job as principal clarinetist
they are famous for their philharmonic nepotism tradition 🙂
Nonsense.
