Slippedisc, courtesy of OperaVision, streams ‘Blessed Queen of Heaven’ from Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh.  Clearly not written with Elizabeth II  in mind when composing this beautiful song as she was had not yet been born in 1905 but still fitting for Jubilee celebrations.  This extract is performed by the Dutch National Opera and Ballet.

Sounds wonderful. Whenever I hear any works Risky-Korsakoff other than his few current western repertory staples, I feel there is a lot to explore. Suggestions?

Still, this may not be ideal.

‘Blessed Queen of Heaven’ sounds Catholic, even if the Monarch of the state is also the “Supreme Governor” of the Church of England.

I’m afraid the Popes and Henry VIII did not follow this example:

Luke 2:19 “But Mary kept all these words in her mind , pondering them in her heart.”

Many do not believe it, but in our time, Christians are regularly arrested in the West, like Pastor John Sherwood, 71, in London, for preaching the Bible. That is Pride-ideology, the new Religion of the State. As reflected by the police cars in rainbow colours.

Yet the Queen is, by definition, ” The Defender of the Faith”. Why is she silent?
