The Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra has announced Ionel Manciu as its new concertmaster.

He is from Moldova and little known abroad.

    He lives in the UK and is, I believe a BBC New Artist. He is a fabulous player.

      Correct….and not only a BBC New Generation Artist, but ‘the winner of the Trondheim International Chamber Music Competition and 67th Royal Over-Seas League Competition…..a Kirckman Music Society Young Artist, Countess of Munster Young Artist and YCAT Finalist. So…clearly not known outside Moldova! Perhaps Mr Lebrecht could do some research for once?
