Up a Swiss Alp, that’s where.

It’s the latest attention-seeking gimmick from the Chinese pianist.

According to Chinese state media: Chinese pianist Lang Lang from Shenyang on Thursday gave a solo piano performance at Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe, an artistic endeavor to promote cultural exchanges between China and Europe by means of music.
Surrounded by mountains and snow on the Jungfrau in central Switzerland, Lang Lang’s interpretation of “Love dream,” “Jasmine flower” and “Goldberg Variations” won warm applause from the audience.
A well-known scenic spot and snow sports resort, the Jungfrau is one of the main summits of the Bernese Alps at a height of 4,158 meters above sea level. In 2001, UNESCO listed the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch as a World Heritage Site.

This has to be some sort of joke! As part of a documentary about Grieg, Leif Ove Andsnes beat him to it by playing on a Norwegian mountain some 14 years ago.

But now we are told Lang Lang played the Goldberg Variations in the snow and received “warm applause”. How does anyone play the Goldbergs at zero degrees and actually has an audience to listen to him! A joke!

    • Hornbill says:

They didn’t say “in the snow’ but “surrounded .. by snow”. Perhaps he was playing in a nicely heated terminal building or a restaurant? As for the audience, the train runs 365 days a year

    “”Where is LL??”
    WHo cares?
His Goldberg variations can be listened for 15 seconds only.Awful!
Send him back to Shanghai and lock him up for good!

  • Rachel Ehrenberg says:

    1. Who bloody cares.
    2. Let him try that stunt in Nepal…sans Sherpas.

  • Larry W says:

Auld Lang Lang Syne should be forgot.

  • Charlotte Stapelberg says:

Wonder what the temperature and atmosphere did to the grand?

  • Herr Forkenspoon says:

Unfortunate to see all the nastiness that has crept into the comments.
