Victory, 10, is world’s youngest opera singer
NewsIn the world according to Guinness. She’s held the title since the age of seven.

I hope she is not forced to do too much, too soon.
Sounds like a PR stunt for Guinness. How do you define the ‘youngest’? Without a clear metric (ie, ‘youngest to sing a Violetta Valéry in a professional production’ for instance – not that that’d be advisable for a 10YO!), that is meaningless.
She sings (very) well, but she’s certainly not the youngest to sing an opera aria in public (Jackie Evancho sang ‘O mio babbino caro’ at America’s got talent, etc. etc.). So as Elizabeth Owen says below, hopefully if she wants to sing she gets to develop at her rhythm, instead of chasing spurious ‘Youngest’ awards.
As much an opera singer as Katherine Jenkins or Russell Watson, perhaps? Neither has appeared in an opera…
Not great and likely not good for her voice. A stunt at best and I note that the Twitter posting was made on April 1st.
It is NOW a lovely little voice but allowing her — if indeed not forcing her — to push in this way is likely to ensure she has no “career” but remains a freak sensation. Please, please, someone save this child and her lovely voice.
so she’s an ‘opera singer’ only in the sense that she sings operatic arias – not that she performs operatic roles on stage. A sort of young Katherine Jenkins.
I suspect the title should rest with the late David Hemmings and others who have played Miles and Flora in productions of The Turn Of The Screw.
My throat hurts just listening.
I hope very much she’ll continue having age appropriate experiences, including joining a childrens’ chorus. Young talents deserve to be nurtured.
can we agree that an opera singer is someone who has sung an opera, not just an aria?
I sing O Sole Mio every morning in my shower. I ain’t no opera singer.
Try the monolog of Hans Sachs, “Wahn, Wahn, überall Wahn”.
Good idea, my downstairs neighbor wakes me up every morning singing “Verachtet mir die Meister nicht…ehrt Eure deutschen Meister…”
The Barnum and Bailey Freak Show rolls on.
