Putin soprano to star in Spain
NewsUnlike other opera houses which have recast their new seasons in light of the invasion of Ukraine, Barcelona’s Liceu Theatre is going ahead with a November production of Il trovatore with Hibla Gerzmava in the role of Leonora.
Gerzmava, 52, is a Russian-Abkhazian soprano, based in Moscow and much admired by the Russian President, who has named her a Merited Artist of the Russian Federation.

What has she done to be called “Putin soprano”? Been Russian. Been Moscow-based. Been good in her work. Been honored. These are not reasons to smear her. Where are we descending exactly?

Catalunian people are zelous upholders of their national honor and language, so they don’t understand “Licue”, Liceu is correct. I had a friend in Barcelona and he taught me a lot about their traditions and mentality… as for madame Gerzmava, I listened to her live. Her voice is round and very warm, she still can do trills and passages , take high notes and keep long cadenzas … she was a winner of Tchaik competitions as far as I know

Ms.Gerzmava is a proud putinista and is or was a good friend of Anna Netrebko whose lavish, garish fiftieth birthday gala she attended and performed at.
She is also well past her sell before date vocally.
There is still time for Liceu to reconsider and replace her.

Well, Ms Netrebko could be just as happy if she would eat her porridge regularly, get her clothes at @elisoeli and her hair done by @ruslanmakeupartist. Perhaps she could even be given the chance to “represent the culture of her country” at the Liceu
