If music does not fit into a well-known box, that is a compliment.
Boxes suffocate music.
It seems that Joe Horovitz is not actually represented on this new Album, so why use him as a cheap soundbite to introduce your review? The composers represented are all good, the project valid, the bitchy reference to Joe not knowing whether he was ‘light’ or ‘serious’ totally invalid. He was a fine composer, a great teacher and a truly wonderful man. Show respect please? The Times line on this may not be reliable.
Many enjoyable concertos here, most of them I know from the excellent Hyperion edition.
