She was stunning. The audience would not let her go at the curtain call. An amazing evening!
why do you discredit your opinion by lying so blatantly?!?!?! she got an enormous ovation for the Letter scene, indeed, but at the end she did not even get a solo call during the whole first round of ovations. And clearly the largest one was for Beczala and then the pair came last and it was a bit smaller and I was surprised she did not get a solo, then the conductor. And then a second round followed and only then she finally got her solo call. I was in the first row and screamed myself hoarse for her, but at that moment the ovation was considerably smaller, and that was it! so no, unfortunately she did not get even a huge ovation on her own or as a pair. Now to even have a second round at the Met these days is an achievement, but to say the audience wouldn’t let go of her at the curtain call is a grotesque exaggeration!!!! and you totally discredit your praise for her!!!!! which is too bad as she truly deserved more at the end. At least she did get a huge hand for the Letter scene.
In my opinion, she was stunning in acts 1 and 2, but she was considerably less in the all important last duet. Having said all of this, I was genuinely thrilled a debut of someone replacing the great Ailyn Perez no less turned to be that well! but I insist, these grotesque, over the top exaggeration do no favors to those ostensibly trying to praise, and it says more about the fanboy than the actually quality of the singer!
The Finnish soprano Marjukka Tepponen is a young future rising star in the opera stages. I have heard her in many roles during years in Finland and she has developed rapidly as one of the best lyric sopranos in her age. Most of the audience from MET were thrilled about her presentation and it looks more than self-evident that she will return to MET in the near future. This will be her international breakthrough for sure.
Marjukka is a excellent singer ! I hope she will have further offers from the Met.
I was there. She did very well and won over the audience.
