Hans Zimmer is the Oscar winner
NewsThe German composer Hans Zimmer won the Oscar for best film score early today for his music for the science fiction Dune.
Zimmer is presently touring with an orchestra in which he has invited several Ukrainian refugees.
He did not have to punch anyone in order to win.
The clip you’ve posted is from the David Lynch version from 1984 or so. Not Zimmer.
And the Oscar goes to….Brian Eno and Toto…..
Hard to tell who to credit for that particular excerpt, since the OMDB listing gives only a rock band name, but it is likely one Steve Porcaro, who has TV score credits and synthesizer experience.
The orchestral music in the 1984 Dune was mainly composed by Marty Paich and Allyn Ferguson, and recorded with the Wiener Symphoniker.
With music by Toto!
Wonderful story in Variety about Hans Zimmer & a Ukrainian pianist!

His music was also very present last week-end during the Figure skating World championship.
Richly deserved and glad to see that Dune did well. A fabulous epic movie. Villeneuve is a rare talent.
Isn’t that guy from Germany also sound-designing motor sounds to go along with your “environmentally friendly” E-SUV?
That plus receiving Oscars in dressing gowns are clear indications of decadence!
All nicely woke-washed by hiring low-budget musicians from the East.
[Just being sarcas.]
Do your homework. Zimmer was protesting the relegation of the music Oscars (and those for editing etc) to “the kids’ table” (as he called it), i.e. not including it in the main ceremony. Why should you dress up when you’re not part of the Oscars proper. A bad decision by the Academy, one of many this year (incl. the horrendous In Memoriam “production number”.
In which case he shouldn’t have accepted the Oscar in this format.
But he needed to accept so he can go on selling his synth driven mood pieces to the ADHS gaming community.
I wonder if the additional composers that are part of the soundtrack and scored the film with Zimmer will receive an Oscar as well? It doesn’t seem fair that they are actively scoring the film along with Zimmer and never receive any acknowledgement.
I think this film had two additional composers who wrote and scored the film. No credit on screen and probably little in the way of compensation. They should had out awards for the film composing team and not just for the headliner.
