Film composer Hans Zimmer is leading orchestra of Ukrainian refugees
NewsZimmer, 64, appeared in a Berlin press conference yesterday with Oleksandr Lysiuk, tour manager of the Odessa Opera Orchestra.
Zimmer said: ‘This orchestra is precious… (we need to show) that art and artists are there to bring peace to this world’.
The musicians are presently rehearsing in Berlin. Zimmer won an Oscar for The Lion King and is presently nominated for Dune.
The tour starts Friday in Hamburg, moving on to Stuttgart and Cologne.
I’m a huge fan of Hans Zimmer’s film scores. To my ears, he is the best creator of film music currently active. His score to Dune was STUNNING.
But to be sure, Zimmer has not had the same influence as John Williams, whose achievements are so great that no less a talent than Richard Wagner continuously ripped off Williams’ ideas and style when he wrote the music to his operas. Could The Ring have even been possible without the ground broken by John Williams?
Alexandre Desplat perhaps more subtle and nuanced?

Vergeben Sie mir, Herr Doctor,
but Wagner died (1883) decades before Williams was born (1932) What dimension are you in? I gather that you will next say Zimmer was copied by Prokofiev, Host, or Stravinsky? You are confusing cause for effect.
Wagner lived 100 years before Williams, how could he steal his ideas (barring a time-travel machine)?
Let me guess, you hate reading about movie composers on SD? Or just despise the whole business?
I agree, however Zimmer hugely influenced Howard Hanson who stole his ideas constantly!!
Alwyn, thank you for understanding my humor. 🙂
It seems others do not.
Hans Zimmer… the film composer who doesn’t read music… is rehearsing an orchestra?
There is not much to rehears, I guess. His favourite key is D minor, there are rare occations for harmonic progressions and the compositions are generally very minimalistic, but produced in a maximalistic way. So the musicians just have to play very loud 😀
Just kidding, at least it brings some joy to people.
Hope there no Nazis in that orchestra.
