There’s a rising chorus of outrage in Copenhagen as the national broadcaster announced the results of an independent legal investigation into years of persistent sexual abuse at the DR Girls Choir.

The report confirms sexual harassment in 22 out of the 64 cases investigated.

The 22 women have been offered 25,000 krone in compensation. That is precisely $3,662.81 each.

Not so much a recompense for abuse, more a kick in the teeth.

None of the abusers has faced any legal proceedings.

Beyond shameful. Are parents still sending their daughters to that choir? I hope not.

  • Henry williams says:

The do not put them in prison because it costs money.

So the offenders get away with the crime.

  • Karl says:

What counts as abuse and harassment there? The 34-page report concluded that most cases went back 20-50 years. The definition of abuse has expanded since then.

  • St Peter says:

Why are young women being forced to dress like that?

  • Freewheeler says:

But how is “persistent sexual abuse” being defined here? “You’re looking good today”? A wink? A smile?

    • Ned Keane says:

If you need guidance on why it’s not OK for an adult to say “You’re looking good today” to a child, you are part of the problem.

    • Moral Police says:

Apparently there were two former chief conductors under the investigation spanning several decades back. And from the one already deceased there are reports he regularly forced tongue kisses with some of the girls. That‘s clearly sexual abuse, even under 1980s standards.
