Another Russian withdraws, this one for happy reasons
UncategorizedFrom the Boston Symphony Orchestra:
On the advice of her physician following news of her pregnancy, soprano Albina Shagimuratova has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the BSO’s upcoming performances of Britten’s War Requiem. We are pleased to announce that Amanda Majeski, making her BSO debut, will replace Ms. Shagimuratova as soprano soloist for these concerts.
Uh huh…she is also a Mariinsky.ru artist –https://www.mariinsky.ru/en/company/opera/soloists/
So what?
Don’t you know Mariinski is just maximum BS, like some great PR machine?
Have you ever been to Mariinski or to SPB even?
Meaning supported by Putin (and Gerghiev).
Amanda Majeski is an American singer, born in Illinois. Having sung in Russia doesn’t make her a Putin apologist.
Smart choice. It is “bad omen” to sing “Lacrimosa Dies ile” when you are pregnant.
Paging Dr. Putin.
Amanda is a great replacement!!!She really rocks!!!!
The Boston Symphony had planned to have soloists of the same symbolic nationalities—Russia, England, and Germany—as Britten originally intended for this work. I am of course looking forward to hear it in a few weeks with an American replacement soprano.
It goes without saying that the recommended care for any pregnancy needs to be tailored to each individual but it is not uncommon for women to teach and/or participate in aerobics well into their 3rd trimester. This sounds like a diplomatic way to avoid a scene at the performance of a piece which the BSO could not have predicted would have the obvious impact given the atrocities the Russian troops are committing on a daily basis in Ukraine.
I feel sorry for Ms. Shagimuratova, who at one point accepted Russian propaganda that the shelling of the pregnant woman in Mariupol was a fake news story. It must be terribly difficult for all the Russian artists who are caught in the political cross-fires.
